Our Fan Engagement Score (FES) measures the size, growth and commitment of a club's fanbase across social, matchday and digital channels. It's a weighted index built from four core pillars.
Each pillar is scored 0–100 relative to the club's league, then blended by weight into a single score out of 100. Scores compare clubs within their league — a pillar without enough data redistributes its weight rather than counting as zero. Methodology version fes-v1.
The total size of a club's owned fanbase across the major social platforms.
How fast a club's total fanbase is growing month over month, relative to its league.
How well a club fills its ground — average home attendance measured against stadium capacity.
Matchday turnout relative to the size of the club's digital fanbase — devotion per follower.
We collect public data monthly from each platform, plus official matchday attendance reports.
Each pillar is scaled 0–100 against the club's league peers, on a log scale where raw counts span orders of magnitude — so every club competes on the same scale and sheer size can't dominate.
The four pillar scores are blended by their weights into one score. A pillar that can't be computed yet — like momentum in a club's first ranked month — redistributes its weight instead of counting as zero.
Three of the four pillars — Social Fanbase Strength, Social Engagement Momentum and Relative Fan Intensity — are scaled 0–100 against a club's own league peers. The score answers “how strong is this club inside its league?”, not “how strong is this club in the world?”. Matchday Commitment is the exception: it is a plain fill rate (average attendance ÷ capacity) and means the same thing in every division.
That is deliberate. Pound-for-pound is the point — a well-supported club in a smaller division should not be buried by a global giant's raw follower count.
We aggregate public data from the platforms fans actually use, plus official attendance reports.
Sources are reviewed regularly to ensure quality and consistency.
The Fan Engagement Score is an independent estimate based on public data. It is designed to compare fan engagement signals, not official club performance or financial results.
Scores are recalculated monthly and published on the 1st of each month. Rankings update shortly after.
